hey jim; I got some old stuff on my credit report, do I have to wait 7 years for it to drop off? I mean can it legally be removed? thanks, Frank Frank, This is one of the most misunderstood of the 10 Credit Myths (a free report on this site). The Credit Bureaus' marketing spin machine has everyone believing negative information HAS to stay on your credit report for 7-10 years, not so! What the law states is that Negative Information CAN stay on your credit report for UP TO 7-10 years. It just states how long IT CAN stay on.
